If you like a sweet, tangy, salty combo this drink will really hit the spot for you! Every time I have this I’m smacking my lips together after every sip. SO SO GOOD!
Alcohol Substitutes:
The use of alcohol in this recipe is totally optional! The alcohol can be replaced with more passionfruit juice, however I highly recommend using some fizzy fresh Sprite.
TIPS AND THINGS TO NOTE:
Purchasing Passion Fruit:
Passion Fruits can be tricky to find depending on where you live, however they are becoming more and more available with the tropical fruit craze hitting social media. I was able to purchase these for $0.88 CAD at a local grocery store called Freshco here in Southern Ontario. I have also seen them at No Frills, Metro, Loblaws and almost every Oriental grocery store in the GTA. It is okay if the outside appears a bit wrinkly as these are super ripe. Avoid it if it is mushy though. A few small circular dents here and there is perfect.
Tajin:
Tajin is a tangy chili seasoning from Mexico. It is extremely popular now and readily available at most grocery stores. Not only is it perfect for riming glasses but so good on fruit- especially mango.
Onto a saucer or plate combine your salt and Tajin.
Squeeze/rub some lime juice along the rim of your glass.
Turn your cup upside down and dip it into your salt and Tajin mixture. Turn your cup (clockwise/counterclockwise)repeatedly until you have a nice coating on the rim of your glass.
Into your prepared cup add ice and rum – or sprite if you do not consume alcohol.
Cut your passion fruit in half. 1 half if for your drink and the other half is reserved for garnish.
Scoop in the pulp from 1 half of the passion fruit using a spoon.
Add passion fruit juice.
Cut a slit into the other passion fruit half and garnish your cup.
Enjoy!
